About Christian Blackburn

Baritone Christian Blackburn makes his NCO debut as the Speaker in The Magic Flute. He is originally from Lakin, Kansas and received his B.M. in voice performance under Dr. Reginald Pittman in 2016 from Kansas State University. Christian completed his Masters in Music at UNCG in May of 2019 under Dr. Carla LeFevre. In 2019, Christian sang the role of Ford in Verdi’s Falstaff with UNCG Opera Theatre where “his powerful voice and expression filled acting made him stand out among his cast” according to The Carolinian. Of his performance as Papageno in Die Zauberflöte for the UNCG in 2018, Classical Voice North Carolina said, “Blackburn’s Papageno lit up the stage; his hearty singing and great comic acting was wonderful.”

Christian has sung with Opera in the Ozarks as a Studio Artist and performed as a chorus member for the Lyric Opera of Kansas City where he sang in two productions in 2017. He appeared in Madame Butterfly (Imperial Commissioner) for Greensboro Opera and Talk Opera (Rigoletto) for UNCG Opera Theatre. Christian made his role debut as Masetto in Don Giovanni this past summer with North Carolina Summer Opera. 

For the past two years, he has placed first in the Upper Division Male category of NATS and in 2019 was awarded Most Outstanding Male Singer in the North Carolina NATS competition. Christian is currently serves on the voice faculty at High Point University, Wingate University, and the Music Academy of North Carolina in Greensboro.
